On Wednesday afternoons, we have a “knit and knatter” group, 1.30- 3.30, which is very informal, and individuals help each other. Purpose of this group is to introduce or reintroduce the art of knitting to people with mental health issues, such as depressions, learning difficulties, dementia, socially isolated people as well as those with sensory impairments, hearing and sight loss. Two members of centre staff are available, however the aim of the group is for mutual support.

In addition, we have an arts and crafts group on Tuesday mornings, 10 – noon run by a tutor, Julie. Some of the group knit and lots of chatter and banter goes on. We charge £2.00 per person per session and this covers any printing of patterns, access to our books, and use and borrowing of our equipment. The purpose is to learn more skills and feel part of a like minded group.

Moorcroft is a centre for the community managed by Woking Borough Council based in Westfield, on the outskirts of Woking town. The centre is open to anyone, any age or ability, whether resident locally or based further afield. Membership of the centre costs a maximum of £8.40 pa, (although in certain circumstances this can be reduced further). The address of Moorcroft is Old School Place, Westfield, Woking, Surrey, GU22 9LY. 01483 743373.

Moorcroft purchases double knit wools from the factory, and sells it on to regular customers at just above cost price as a service, so on average a ball of acrylic 100g costs £1.20. we can also supply knitting needles and knitting bags at reasonable prices.
